FUN IN THE SUN: SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

The Mission Trail as it is commonly known runs north from San Diego at its southernmost point 650 miles along which you will visit all 21 two century old Spanish Missions along the way north ending in Sonoma Ca. Spend six nights and seven day lodging in different hotel every night along the way. Enjoy all the sights as you casually drive through desert, seashore and lush green areas and see all the sights besides the Missions. This is a fly/drive vacation designed to fly into San Diego and return from San Francisco. Pick-up your auto and have a great time.

AMERICAS DREAM DRIVE
Fly into San Diego pick up your auto and embark northward on the drive of a lifetime. Before leaving San Diego you must see the Coronado Beach Hotel owned by the Wallace Simpson family who later became the Duchess of York. This is where Marilyn Monroe lived in a cabana at the hotel filming "Some Like it Hot". Visit the Gaslight area, Balboa Park, and the San Diego Zoo. Travel on up the Pacific Coast Highway stopping at La Jolla, Delmar, San Juan Capistrano, Newport, Laguna and Long Beach. Take the time to take the ferry and spend the day at Catalina Island, it's an absolute must. When you return from Catalina spend the night aboard the Queen Mary, then travel on up to the LA area, see Santa Monica, Malibu, Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive. Go further north from LA, see the sights at Ventura, and Santa Barbara and spend the night. As you go further north a must is the Hearst Castle at San Luis Obispo another absolute must. As you trek further north you will see the magnificent Big Sur, something to behold. As you wind along high above the sea on the coast you will go through the seventeen mile loop the lets you off at Pebble Beach just south of the Monterey Peninsula, another must is the town of Monterey. This is Steinbeck's Cannery Row, visit the pier and then on to San Francisco.

Why not vacation and explore some of the finest wineries, certainly in the USA if not the world. Spend a week visiting all the nooks and crannies and finding the gems among the three hundred, yes three hundred wineries in the Napa Valley. In 1960 Robert Mondavi pretty much started it all. See Chandon, and a must is Sterling Vineyards high up on a hill. You will have to take a tram to visit the pristine white stucco enclave and take their tour.
By the way, while you're in this neck of the woods enjoy Marin county just over the Golden Gate Bridge, Sausalito, and Muir Woods with its giant redwood forest. It will be an incredible experience without having to go to Sequoia National Park. Should you tire of the tasting and the outdoors, take a side trip back and spend time in the beautiful city of San Francisco.

GRAND CANYON ADVENTURE
Fly in to Phoenix, pick up your vehicle and away you go to the small cowpoke town of Prescott, be sure to visit the gold mine. Spend one night and the following morning you're off for two nights at the Lodge on the south rim of the Grand Canyon a two hour drive. It is well worth the additional cost to explore the area for three hours aboard a mule with a guide.* After your stay head back south passing some of the most spectacular scenery you've ever seen reaching Sedona and the red rock canyons, quoted as the most beautiful place to visit in the USA. Spend two wonderfully relaxing nights before you return to Phoenix for the last evening of your trip.
